چکیده

abstract: since the field of micro electromechanical systems (mems) continues to grow, the flow in micro devices have become an area that receives a significant attention. the microscopic flows are usually characterized by the knudsen number (kn). when the characteristic size of the particle decreases down to a value comparable to the mean free path of the molecules, the continuum assumption fails and the navier-stokes equations with no-slip boundary conditions cannot be applied, so the numerical method which is not based on continuity of the flow is needed. recently the lattice boltzmann method (lbm) has received considerable attention by fluid dynamic researches. the lbm is based on the lattice boltzmann equation with bhatnagar-groos-krook (bgk) collision approximation. in this paper the incompressible laminar flow in a 2d micro semi-circular cavity with lid driven is simulated by lbm. it should be mentioned that the flow in semi-circular cavity in macro scale has been simulated too and the obtained results were found to be in good agreement with those given from the finite volume method. in the present work, the computational results showed that the slip could have influence on the center of vortex and moved it in horizontal and vertical direction in semi-circular cavity. computing the friction coefficient on the lid driven presented that the friction coefficient was increased as kn was increased. the slip could affect on the maximum velocity in cavity too and decreased it.

Numerical Solutions of 2-D Steady Incompressible Flow in a Driven Skewed Cavity

The benchmark test case for non-orthogonal grid mesh, the “driven skewed cavity flow”, first introduced by Demirdžiü et al. [5] for skew angles of 30 D D and 45 D D , is reintroduced with a more variety of skew angles. The benchmark problem has non-orthogonal, skewed grid mesh with skew angle (D ). The governing 2-D steady incompressible NavierStokes equations in general curvilinear coordinates...

Numerical solutions of 2-D incompressible driven cavity flow with wavy bottom surface

In the present numerical study is devoted to investigate the lid-driven cavity flow with wavy bottom surface. The cavity upper wall is moving with a uniform velocity by unity and the other walls are no-slip. The physical problem is represented mathematically by a set of governing equations and the developed mathematical model is solved by employing Galerkin weighted residual method of finite el...

Numerical Solutions of 2-D Steady Incompressible Driven Cavity Flow at High Reynolds Numbers

Numerical calculations of the 2-D steady incompressible driven cavity flow are presented. The NavierStokes equations in streamfunction and vorticity formulation are solved numerically using a fine uniform grid mesh of 601 × 601. The steady driven cavity solutions are computed for Re ≤ 21,000 with a maximum absolute residuals of the governing equations that were less than 10−10. A new quaternary...

Wall-driven incompressible viscous flow in a two-dimensional semi-circular cavity

The main goal of this article is to investigate the capability of an operator-splitting/finite elements based methodology at handling accurately incompressible viscous flow at large Reynolds number (Re) in regions with corners and curved boundaries. To achieve this goal the authors have selected a wall-driven flow in a semi-circular cavity. On the basis of the numerical experiments reported in ...

Comparison of three different numerical schemes for 2D steady incompressible lid-driven cavity flow

In this study, a numerical solution of 2D steady incompressible lid-driven cavity flow is presented. Three different numerical schemes were employed to make a comparison on the practicality of the methods. An alternating direction implicit scheme for the vorticity-stream function formulation, explicit and implicit schemes for the primitive variable formulation of governing Navier-Stokes equatio...

Numerical simulation of incompressible turbulent flow in shrouded disk system with radial outflow

The flow behavior inside the shrouded disk system is of importance in appropriate design of turbomachinery cavities and turbine test cell hydraulics dynamometer. The turbulent incompressible flow is analyzed for the shrouded disk system with axial clearance. The flow core behaves as a Batchelor type structure when a weak inflow is imposed on the disk cavity. By increasing the inflow, the centra...
